For Artissima Art Fair 2023, Cable Depot presented a duo project by Davide Bertocchi and Charlie Warde, with performances by Daniel Nicolaevsky Maria. Through the lens of Olivetti’s legacy, Bertocchi and Warde connect key concerns in their praxis, together poignantly observing the arc from aspiration to obsolescence, memory and reactivation.

The project combined Warde’s history of monumentalising the debris of Britain’s failed Brutalist architecture and Bertocchi’s lifelong obsession with text, recording equipment and marble (as a child, he used to collect cut-offs from a funerary monument yard) and how together they help each other to explore personal memories, time, monuments, and rebirth, connecting their experiences of life in England, France, and Italy. Combined with performances (by Daniel Nicolaevsky Maria) and audience engagement, the monuments of the past are brought back to life, reactivated and transformed, and continue to shape our present and future.
