Last year, during my Manifesta 13 residency, I played with the potential of acrylic paint as a ‘stand alone’ sculpture medium. It immediately became clear that the limitations of using paint (drying time, scale and elasticity) should inform rather than restrict the works. They began to droop and drip, to do things that concrete could never do; these were not facsimiles, they began to work on a different level, entering into the strange world of the uncanny.
